Christian Kerez
display of models and architectural plans
The role, the function and the form of the recently founded art insitutions in Poland are being widely discussed by the media and the local art environment, therefore the show is an answer to a great public demand. Its presentation seems especially up-to-date in the space of the CoCa, which is the first newly erected object dedicated to contemporary art since 1939.
The show is an unique opportunity to look into the backstage of architectural practice. Christian Kerez is known for his distrust in the computer renderings – he claims they create a fake representation of architecture and remain painfully flat vs. the three-dimensional reality of architecture. Therefore he always prefers to work with models – manual work and the ability to experience and see the real space is crucial to Kerez’s creative process. The recent months, spent on conceptual work and consultations with the Museum Board, various artists and architects, along with the local authorities and the citizens of Warsaw, have resulted in new visions and solutions. The current redefinition is particurarly visible in the functionality of the building, which is reflected in the presentation.
